Submission Guidelines

We are currently accepting submissions through February 2020. We welcome agented and un-agented manuscripts for picture books, and middle grade fiction. Pygmy Giraffe is looking for books with a wildlife, animal, conservation theme or books that feature animal(s)  as the main character. Please read the instructions below carefully. We will not consider any submissions that do not follow these guidelines.

We do not respond to individual submissions unless we have further interest. If you have not heard from us after four months please assume that we are not interested in publishing your work.

We do not require exclusive submissions. You may send your work to other publishers at the same time.

For All Submissions:

~ Cover Letter

~Include phone number and email.

~Include whether manuscript is a picture book or middle grade chapter book.

~ Include manuscripts printed as a PDF, Times New Roman 12 pt – double spaced.

Picture Books:

We are specifically seeking fiction and non-fiction manuscripts that are focused on animals and/or conservation or have animals as the main character and are targeting ages 5-8.

~ Word Count up to 500 for fiction manuscripts, up to 1000 for non-fiction manuscripts.

Body of the email should contain:

 ~ Cover letter

 ~ Brief Description of story

 ~ Short bio mentioning background information or previous publications relevant to your story.

 ~Provide titles to three comparative books published within the past five years.

 ~If you are an author/illustrator, attach/enclose a book dummy with your submission.

Middle Grade Fiction

We are seeking fiction and non-fiction books for middle-grade novels for children up to age 13.

~ Word Count: Up to 40,000 words.

Cover letter should include:

~ Brief Story Pitch.

~ Brief Description of story           

~ Short bio mentioning background information or previous publications relevant to your story.

~ Provide titles to three comparative books published within the past five years. 

~ Please include first chapter and outline of all chapters.

~ Manuscripts should be a Word Document if mailed, and a PDF if emailed.

~ Subject line should read “Submissions – Middle Grade Fiction.”

For Illustrators

We are looking for artists that specialize/excel in illustrating animals and natural environments. All artists, illustrators, styles, and experience levels will be considered. We look at every submission, but we may not necessarily respond. If PGP is interested in your work, we will keep your name on file and contact you if a project comes our way that we feel would be a good fit.
